Patient Spotlight: Jayna Easterly

Discovering Joy in Unexpected Places

Jayna Easterly discovered she was pregnant during a routine check-up. This news, her first pregnancy, brought excitement to her and her partner. However, Jayna faced a significant challenge: she had no insurance coverage and struggled to find a doctor willing to take her as a patient. After an arduous search, she finally found The Luke Clinic at 17 weeks into her pregnancy.

Finding a Home at The Luke Clinic

"The Luke Clinic is like home. Here, I feel supported and cared for, and the staff are like my friends," Jayna shares. One of the most valuable aspects of her experience has been the education programs offered by the clinic. Jayna, who knew little about being a mom, received comprehensive guidance and resources to prepare for her baby's arrival. The clinic's support extended to breastfeeding education, inspiring Jayna to try feeding her baby herself.

A Doctor's Compassionate Care

Jayna particularly appreciates Dr. Gold, the Medical Director. During her pregnancy, concerns arose when her baby was measuring small, leading to a referral to the Fetal Care Center. Overwhelmed and without anyone to accompany her, Jayna found solace in Dr. Gold's presence. Dr. Gold, attending on her own time, explained everything and ensured Jayna was comfortable with the care plan.

Support During a Critical Time

After delivery at Hutzel Hospital, Elise Englert, an education nurse from The Luke Clinic, frequently visited Jayna. When her baby was in the NICU, Elise spent considerable time helping Jayna care for her baby, including assisting with pumping breast milk and feeding. This support continued when Jayna and her baby finally went home after a week and a half in the hospital.

A Christmas to Remember

Returning home during a snowy Christmas, Jayna faced challenges getting to the clinic. The Luke Clinic sent the Mother and Baby Care Unit to her home. Elise continued to assist with breastfeeding as Jayna transitioned from bottle-feeding to breastfeeding. Jayna felt supported and cared for every step of the way.

Jayna's story is a testament to the compassionate care provided by The Luke Clinic. Through the clinic's support, she found not only medical assistance but also a community that cared for her and her baby.
