Who we are

The Luke Clinic is a compassionate haven for pregnant and postpartum mothers and their infants in Detroit, dedicated to providing free medical and wrap-around services to vulnerable families. We offer comprehensive care with a focus on maternal and infant health, creating a safe space where patients feel heard and supported.

We care for the whole person

We care for each person holistically, addressing physical health through medical care and wellness programs, supporting mental well-being with counseling and community connections, and nurturing their spiritual growth by providing Christian faith-based guidance. This integrated approach, rooted in the love of Christ, ensures comprehensive support for individuals’ overall well-being.

  • Accessible Care

We provide free prenatal and infant care during afternoon and evening hours in a local setting in southwest Detroit. We try to overcome the barriers to care in our community and provide assistance with transportation, food insecurity, translation services, and childcare. We minimize the stress on our patients by providing laboratory, ultrasound, provider visits, immunizations, antenatal testing, and education programming in one location. We also offer 24/7 triage phone coverage, virtual visits, and a mobile Mother and Baby Clinic all to address barriers to care and make our services accessible for patients.

  • Relationship-Based Care

Recognizing historical and systemic barriers, including racism and implicit bias in healthcare, we prioritize rebuilding trust with our community. This trust is foundational to our mission of empowering women to access comprehensive prenatal care and support. We strive to provide a nurturing environment where patients feel respected and heard, ensuring they receive the care they deserve. At The Luke Clinic, we are committed to being a part of the solution, not the problem. We realize many of our clients have lost trust in the healthcare system. We desire to provide care that embodies safety, peace, and acceptance.

  • Compassionate Care

We provide compassionate care for pregnant mothers who lack access to essential care and resources. We understand that our patients need confidential care in a non-judgmental and safe atmosphere.

Our dedicated team offers personalized medical support, education, and emotional guidance to those facing unplanned pregnancies. We strive to create a nurturing, respectful environment where every mother feels heard and valued, ensuring they receive the comprehensive care and support they need for a healthy pregnancy and beyond.

  • Empowering Care

The Luke Clinic offers comprehensive education programs focused on prenatal care, parenting skills, and child development. These programs empower expectant mothers and families with knowledge and support, promoting healthy pregnancies, informed parenting, and overall well-being. Workshops, resources, and personalized guidance ensure accessible, impactful learning tailored to each patient’s needs. Our goal is to educate and engage patients, helping them make informed decisions about their health and fostering a collaborative approach to achieve the best possible outcomes.

  • Individualized Care

At our free medical clinic, we embrace and celebrate diversity as a fundamental strength that enriches our community and enhances the quality of healthcare we provide. Everyone deserves compassionate and inclusive medical care regardless of their background. We recognize each individual has intrinsic value placed on us by God. Therefore, we seek to honor every person who walks through our door. The Luke Clinic welcomes patients, staff, students, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are respected and valued. We aim to provide healthcare in a supportive and equitable environment where all our diverse community members feel safe and accepted.

  • Spiritual Care

At The Luke Clinic, our approach to life affirming spiritual care is deeply rooted in compassion and respect for the sanctity of life. Our spiritual care team offers various services, including one-on-one prayer support, spiritual counseling, and educational resources that reflect our Christian values. We are dedicated to helping women find hope, strength, and reassurance, reinforcing their sense of God-given purpose throughout their maternity experience. By nurturing the spiritual and the physical, we aim to support and uplift our patients, ensuring they feel valued and empowered every step of the way. We love to mentor and encourage Fathers and partner with families in faith formation for all members of the family.

We have consistently provided high-quality prenatal and postnatal care to over 1500 women and infants in Detroit. Our services include regular health check-ups, screenings, nutritional counseling, and education on pregnancy and childbirth.

Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including family medicine providers, nurses, and support staff, ensures that every patient receives personalized and culturally competent care.

  • Twelve Months of Infant Care

Our 12-month infant care program provides comprehensive support for newborns and their families. We offer regular check-ups, vaccinations, developmental screenings, and parental support. This program ensures infants thrive through their crucial first year, promoting healthy growth, early detection of issues, and strengthening family bonds.

  • Education

We have conducted tailored, culturally appropriate education programs to raise awareness about maternal health, the importance of prenatal care, breastfeeding, and healthy lifestyle choices during pregnancy.

Our educational initiatives have reached hundreds of women through workshops, seminars, and materials distributed in the clinic and through our social media channels.

Improved Maternal & Infant Health Outcomes

  • Our efforts have improved maternal and infant health outcomes. We hope to contribute to a significant reduction in maternal mortality rates, lower incidence of low birth weight and premature births, and improved overall health and well-being of mothers and infants in the community we serve.

  • Our culturally competent care practices have built trust and engagement among our patient population, leading to improved rates of regular prenatal visits and better adherence to recommended health practices.

Addressing Disparities

  • By addressing the unique needs of racial minorities, low-income women, and other underserved groups, we have made significant progress in reducing health disparities in maternal care.

  • Our partnerships with local organizations have been crucial in providing holistic support to our patients, addressing their health needs and the social determinants of health such as housing, nutrition, and transportation.
