Partnering in Mission: St. Paul Lutheran Church and The Luke Clinic

The Luke Clinic is blessed to be supported by individuals and churches dedicated to providing vital services to women and children in Detroit. One such steadfast partner is St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton, whose support has been unwavering since our ministry's inception nearly eight years ago.

Christ called His church to be missional, issuing the Great Commission to His people. However, how this calling manifests is unique for each of us, reflecting our diverse strengths and gifts. This diversity is also evident within churches. Each congregation has its own strengths and giftings, contributing uniquely to the body of Christ.

I have had the privilege of visiting various congregations and experiencing their distinct callings. Some pastors greet me at the door, proudly declaring, “We are a praying congregation.” Knowing a congregation's heart and calling beforehand is always a delight. As Jesus teaches, we are all parts of a great body, each with a specific purpose. Together, we function as the body of Christ on earth.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Trenton, with its unique and strong missional heart, exemplifies this beautifully. Recently, The Luke Clinic was invited to participate in their Mission Festival, a joyous and celebratory evening that gathered various missions supported by St. Paul. We are honored to be among this special group and were inspired by the reports of worldwide mission work.

One particularly impactful moment was hearing Pastor Markus Nietzke speak about his ministry in Germany. He works with immigrants and refugees displaced from South Africa and Ukraine, drawing inspiration from German Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s writings. At The Luke Clinic, we resonate deeply with Bonhoeffer’s words: “The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will build community.”

This quote encapsulates the spirit of our partnership with St. Paul Lutheran Church. We build a strong, supportive community by loving and serving those around us. We are profoundly grateful for St. Paul's unwavering support and commitment to our shared mission. Together, we continue to bring hope and healing to those in need, fulfilling Christ’s call to be missional in our unique ways.

Thank you, St. Paul Lutheran Church, for being a shining example of what it means to serve with a heart for missions. Your partnership is invaluable, and we look forward to many more years of shared ministry and impact. Thank you for the wealth of donations we received from St Paul, you have helped to ensure that our resource closet is fully stocked.
